At Schmitt Elementary, we are proud to continue our implementation of the Leader in Me program as part of our commitment to nurturing 21st-century leadership and life skills in every student.  The Leader in Me is a K-12 whole-school improvement model that teaches leadership and life skills to students, educators, and families.  It is an evidence-based process that integrates principles from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to create a high-trust culture and improve academic achievement.  The Leader in Me is more than just a program, it is a way of life.  It empowers our students to lead with confidence, act with integrity, and shape a future filled with purpose and possibility.

Core components

  • Leadership: The model is built on the idea that everyone has the potential to lead and helps students develop leadership skills through various activities and goal setting.
  • Culture: It works to create a high-trust environment where students and staff are engaged and motivated.
  • Academics: By developing leadership and life skills, the program aims to improve student academic performance and help them become more self-reliant.
  • Shared language: The program uses the 7 Habits as a common language to build a supportive and effective environment throughout the school and at home.
