Principal's Message
Welcome to Schmitt Elementary, home of the proud Schmitt Lions. We are having an amazing school year! Our lion pride comes from being Leaders who ROAR because we are Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Resilient. We have high expectations for our students and provide rigorous, relevant, and well rounded academic experiences. We are striving for excellence through our Leader in Me speciality and supporting strong academics through AVID by focusing on WICOR: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading. At all grade levels we expose students to the attributes of WICOR to help our students think and learn at higher levels.
I am also thrilled to share the exciting developments and initiatives taking place at Schmitt Elementary. We are on an incredible journey of growth and innovation, and I am confident that our students, staff, and community will continue to greatly benefit from these advancements.
We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Leader in Me as we move forward with our speciality focus on leadership. This collaboration perfectly aligns with the skills we have been fostering through the AVID program over the past two years. Our students have been learning about organization, leveled questioning, focused note-taking, and our upper-grade students are delving into philosophical chairs and Socratic seminars. These programs collectively enhance our students' critical thinking and communication skills, preparing them for future academic and personal success.
Our teachers are equally engaged in professional growth. They are deeply immersed in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process, working collaboratively to identify essential standards and create common formative assessments. This dedication ensures that our instructional practices are aligned and effective, ultimately benefiting our students' learning experiences.
Once our modernization construction is complete, we are incredibly excited to open our new Innovation Lab in 2025. This space will be a hub of creativity and technology, featuring LEGO Education kits and tools for students to learn about using iPads and the green screen for creating presentations. The Innovation Lab will provide our students with hands-on, engaging opportunities to explore and develop their skills in STEM and digital literacy.
Our commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) remains strong. We continue to uphold our expectations of ROAR: Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Resilient. Our students earn Roar Rewards and have the chance to enjoy various incentives such as trips to the treasure box, extra recess, restaurant gift cards, and lunch with the principal. These rewards encourage positive behavior and create a supportive school environment.
The exciting initiatives at Schmitt Elementary are a testament to our commitment to providing a comprehensive and enriching educational experience for our students. We are eager to see where our hard work and dedication will lead us in the future.
It is important that everyone here at Schmitt is excited to come to school, a positive attitude helps us meet the challenges of academic excellence. By involving our families and community, we work together to make Schmitt a great school. We provide a nurturing and positive environment to help students learn, feel safe, and have fun.
